Common questions

How do I play?

Press the field and slide your finger: the ball follows above the column. While you hold, the balls it would touch already show their new colors. Let go to drop it. Four touching balls of one color burst, and the game goes on until a rising row has no room left.

Why doesn't the ball I drop ever match its neighbors?

Because it changes them. A ball of a given color turns each neighbor by the same number of steps along the wheel, so a neighbor could only end up in the ball's own color if it had been pearl. That is the heart of the game: you don't place a ball next to its own kind, you use it to recolor a neighbor into the color of that neighbor's neighbors.

What happens when a group bursts?

Every ball that bursts turns its surviving neighbors back by its own color — a neighbor of two burst balls is turned back twice. Then the balls above fall down; falling never changes a color. If new groups of four have formed, they burst too, and each step of such a chain raises the score multiplier.

What is the ring around the ball?

The time you have for the move — five seconds. When it runs out, the ball drops into the column under your finger. Moving to another column does not restart it.

What does the pearl ball do?

Nothing to its neighbors: it shifts no colors, and its burst shifts none either. It still counts as a color of its own and forms groups of four. It shows up rarely, and it is more of a spacer than a helper.

How does the stash work?

Tap the stash to put the current ball aside; the next one from the queue takes its place. Tap again later to swap the stashed ball back in. One ball fits in the stash at a time.

When does a new row rise, and how does the game end?

The row of segments in the top bar fills up with every move; when it is full, a new row pushes up from the bottom. Higher levels make it come more often. If the field is already full to the top when a row rises, the game is over.

What changes between levels?

Levels come with points. A new level either adds a color to the wheel — which makes every shift harder to see through — or makes the rows rise more often.

How do I leave a game or start over?

Use the pause button on the left of the top bar: it offers Resume, Start over and Main menu. There is deliberately no direct exit, so an accidental tap never costs you a game.

Does my record move to another device?

Yes, if iCloud is on. Your best score and best level are synced through your Apple Account, and merging always keeps the higher value, so nothing gets rolled back.

My score doesn't show up in Game Center.

Check that you are signed in to Game Center in system settings and that you are online. A result earned offline is kept on the device and sent the next time the game signs in. Game Center is optional: without it the game is fully playable.

Does the game need an internet connection?

No. Everything runs on the device. The network is used for two optional things only: the iCloud sync of your record and the Game Center leaderboard.

How do I change the language or the look?

The game follows your system language; the language of this site is chosen the same way and can be switched in the header. The dark (glossy) or light (matte) look is chosen in Settings in the main menu, and the tutorial can be replayed from there under How to play.

I found a bug, or I have an idea.

Please write. Ideas are read as carefully as bug reports, and both shape what gets built next.

For a bug it helps to know: your device and system version, the level you were on, and what you expected to happen.
