The short version
OffBeat has no accounts and no tracking you have not agreed to. It collects anonymous analytics about how the game is played — which levels people reach and where they stop — so that it can be made better. The iOS version from the App Store can show one kind of advert: a video you choose to watch to continue a chain after a mistake. The game never asks you for personal data, and so it never collects any.
What the app stores
Your progress — best scores, longest chains, unlocked achievements and your settings — is stored only on your device, in the standard system storage for app preferences (UserDefaults). If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it.
What leaves your device
Two things: your Game Center results, if you use Game Center, and anonymous gameplay analytics.
If you are signed in to Apple's Game Center, the app submits the scores and achievements you earn to Apple so that they can appear on the leaderboards. That part is handled by Apple, not by us, under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Game Center is entirely optional. If you are not signed in, decline the prompt, or are offline, the game remains fully playable.
Anonymous analytics
So that the game can be improved, it sends anonymous gameplay events to Amplitude, an analytics service. This is what is sent:
- Gameplay events: a run started and finished, a level started, completed or failed, how long the answer took, how many attempts it took, which kind of difference the level used, the score and the level number.
- A random identifier generated on your device, so that repeat visits are counted as one player rather than many. It is not your name, your email or your Apple ID.
- Technical context collected automatically by the analytics SDK: device model, system version, app version, language, and an approximate region derived from the IP address of the request.
- App Store campaign data, if you installed the game after tapping an Apple Search Ads advert. This uses Apple's own attribution mechanism and does not depend on the tracking permission described below.
Never sent: your name, your email, your Apple ID, your contacts, your location from location services, your photos, or anything you have stored in other apps. Amplitude processes this data on our behalf.
Advertising
When a chain ends, the game may offer to continue it in exchange for watching a video advert. The advert is shown only if you tap “Continue”; nothing is shown on the playing field, in the tutorial or in the menu, and the game never interrupts you with an advert. This applies to the iOS version from the App Store; the Mac version and test builds contain no advertising code at all.
Adverts are served by Yandex Advertising Network through the Yandex Mobile Ads SDK, which includes Yandex's AppMetrica library. To select, show and count adverts it processes the usual advertising request data:
- Device model, system version, app version, language and the IP address of the request, from which an approximate region is derived.
- An identifier of the app on your device (the per-vendor identifier) and which adverts were shown, watched or tapped.
- The advertising identifier (IDFA) — only if you allow it in Apple's “Allow tracking” prompt. The game asks once, the first time you reach the main menu after the tutorial. If you decline, the identifier is not available to the SDK, no tracking across apps or websites takes place, and adverts are still shown, just less relevant. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
This processing is governed by Yandex's Privacy Policy. Whatever you choose, the rest does not change: your progress stays on your device and the analytics above stay anonymous.
What the app does not do
- No adverts on the playing field, in the tutorial or in the menu — the only advert is the one you choose to watch to continue a chain
- No tracking across apps or websites unless you allow it in Apple's “Allow tracking” prompt
- No accounts, no registration, no email collection
- No access to location services, contacts, photos, microphone or camera
- No data sold, and none of it shared with data brokers
This website
This site uses Yandex Metrica to see how its pages are used, including anonymous recordings of page sessions (Webvisor). That is about visits to this website only — it has nothing to do with what you do inside the game.
Any tracker blocker stops it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
Offline by design
All game content is generated on the device at runtime and all sound is synthesised in the app. OffBeat needs no network connection to play: analytics events wait on the device and are sent later, when a connection is available.
Children
The game asks for no personal data from anyone, including children. The analytics described above are anonymous and are not used to build a profile of a person. Adverts are configured as non-personalised where the audience is or may be children, as required by applicable law.
Your data and your rights
The analytics are tied to a random identifier, not to you, so there is no way for us to look up a person or to single out your data on request. Deleting the app removes that identifier along with your local progress; a fresh install simply starts a new one.
Data held by Apple through Game Center is managed in your Apple Account settings. If you have a question about any of this, write to us at the address below.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version is published on this page with a new date. Changes that affect how data is handled ship together with the app update that introduces them.
